What an opening for a book, huh? I love Edith Schaeffer!
I’m excited! I’ve been trying to figure out how to make my family and home more comfortable, more loving and more…I don’t know, just more pleasing to God!
Not growing up in a home where the mother was home with her kids, who cooked and sewed, but a mother who worked and got take-out at times and was home as much as she could, I’ve come to learn a lot of things myself, and through other women who have wrote very helpful books and have been an example to me in my teen years! My mom did give us fun times, and she did bake and cook at times, but was never really at home or we were always going places. (Not her choice, by the way. I love her and she did the best she could do with all that she had. 🙂 I am forever grateful for what she has taught me, and the kindness she has shown to so many.)
I struggled with what I was suppose to do or be, though. The world had some ideas, my family had some others, and me? I was clueless. I’ll never forget the struggles, the anger. Yet later, after finding Christ and getting married, finding the fulfillment of being a woman after God’s own heart really started to develop. Sometimes through a lot of kicking and screaming, sad to say, but thank God for His mercy!
I’m not fully there even now. Through God’s amazing grace I’ve learned so many things and have improved in areas I would never have dreamed of , but there is still more to come. I am so thankful for my family, especially my husband and kids, in all of this. If it wasn’t for them, there would be no change and I would stay selfish forever. What a great year of growth!
What will this new year will bring? This year I have a couple of goals:
- One is to read the Bible in a year. I need to get back into Bible reading where it is consistent and I go all the way through once again!
2) I am going to go through a monthly theme and you’re invited to go through it with me! Each month I am going to work through a different topic. I will use quotes at different times from the book I’ve quoted above. When I do a couple of ideas I’ll try to post up things I’ve done with my own family to bring a greater atmosphere.
I hope it inspires you in some way to do things in your own home and maybe, just maybe, this year will be filled with endearing memories! (You can always read through the book as well, because I am not going to quote or share all her ideas, but take the ones I like, seeing what I can incorporate into my own family). I’ve wanted to do certain things and just haven’t gotten around to do it. Maybe now’s the time!
I eventually, some day, want to learn to write but until then, this blog will do. Thanks for being a faithful reader!
Of course, the other things on my list is to grow in relationship to God, my husband, my children and be a great witness to others. But those are always on the top of my list! 🙂
So are you ready to go on this adventure with me? I hope so!
We are going to explore different “hidden” art that we can do with our family and friends and around our homes through this blog this year, plus still keep up the random book reviews that will pop up now and then as I read through the year. Thanks for coming along on the ride and have a blessed week!
Be inspired today!
