After reading Titus 3:1-2, God convicted my heart of someone I had slandered. Once I knew I had, I went to that person and apologized. Then God showed me someone else, and I am still in the process of asking for forgiveness from that person, who is even closer to me then the last.
THAT is the work of God’s word when everyday you seek Him and ask Him to show you what He desires you to do. It touches your life and changes you. The Holy Spirit teaches you, you are able to hear what He says, and you ACT. Sometimes He may convict your heart, other times He encourages you, and yet other times He has something to teach you.
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
I believe this because I have seen it time and time again in my own life. With that being said, let’s move on through the book of Titus and see what else He has for us.
“At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. ” Titus 3:3
We were once…
- enslaved (by passions and pleasures)
- living in malice
- hating others
“But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we have done, but because of his mercy.” Titus 3:4-5
It’s not because of us. Look at the list above. I bet you could find one thing on that list that you could say “Yep, that’s me” or “Yep, that was me.” Honestly, I could say I have hit the whole list.
Nothing we can do or have done in this life can change the things we’ve done wrong. We think nice deeds will cover up our evil actions but, really, they just are like a stack a books on a chocolate bar. The chocolate bar is still there. (I know, funny illustration. Hey, what can I say?)
Sometimes, when we lose focus, we can still fall into the above categories. We can’t hide our evil. But God, who is loving and kind, saves us. He is willing to save us. He does it because of His mercy.
“He saved us by the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out generously through Jesus our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.” Titus 3:6-7
The words that stuck out to me were “saves”, “rebirth”, “renewal”, and how the Holy Spirit will be “poured out on us generously.”
Really, those things are what happen when Jesus saves us. He allows us to start over where it feels like you are literally “born again.”
When I first gave my heart fully to Christ, I felt full. I went outside and felt like I was seeing colors of the trees for the first time. It was amazing! I kept wondering how I could miss how beautiful it was. Like I had colored glasses that were finally moved away so I could see clearly. My mom got saved the same day and she had said the same thing.
He renews us! He helps us change from the inside out, one step at a time, and generously pours out His Spirit!
I think we forget that last part all too often.
The Holy Spirit is always at work in us! What a mighty God we serve!
Not only does He promise all this, but, get this: He also allows us to be heirs with Jesus in eternal life! No way! That is SO amazing. We are part of the inheritance of heaven. Heirs of heaven…wow.
“This is a trustworthy saying, and I want to stress those things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.” Titus 3:8
Since we are so blessed, we need to give back.
Are we devoted to God? Will we devote ourselves to Him?
Honestly, from looking at my life I have found He is really the only good thing out there.
” Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17
Everything GOOD in your life is from God! That kindness that was shared, that hug or kiss you may have received, that help along side of you the other day when you couldn’t do it yourself. Those all came from HIM! Because HE CARES FOR YOU! He inspires people to act!
Be inspired today to also devote yourselves to doing good!
When you thank God for all He has done, how can you not feel Joy?
