Tricks Animals Play by Jan Nagel Clarkson
This was a big hit in my house! My middle boy picked this out and eventually all my other kids, whether they read it already or not, were gathering around checking out the different animals that play tricks! Some of those tricks include playing dead, puffing up like balloons, having weird smells and so many other things. Though old, this book is an excellent book for kids who like animals. 🙂
By Matthew Grant
The book they had on Amazon didn’t have a picture because it is old. Not too bad of a book, though, for children around 3rd and 4th grade. It gives a quick overview of Daniel Boone’s life with a few drawings scattered throughout the book. He was one of the first well-known frontiersmen who was around while the United States was being born and after. He paved the way for people to settle in Kentucky but ended up losing his land.
Grizzly Bears by Gail Gibbons
I have to say the thing I like most about this book is the type of illustrations it has. It is full of grizzly bear facts. My kids sat around while I read, but I think it is a bit long for little ones, unless they love books and animals. Then I would say, Read on Mom!
Big Tracks, Little Tracks: Following Animal Prints by Millicent E. Selsam
Is your child interested in animals, become a frontiersmen, hunter or outdoorsmen? Well, one of the skills they will need is the ability to track animals! This is a great book on how to find different animals by becoming an animal detective. All my kids enjoyed this book and I would highly recommend it. It is a bit interactive and my kids were answering questions as we read along.
Again, this is an old book, but a great read on Davy Crockett! I would recommend it for around 3rd grade. Davy Crockett was an amazing and funny person that kids fall in love with.
The Sun by Elaine Landau
Great pictures and fac
ts about the sun! Things I never knew about, like solar flares and how they study the sun. It complements the study my son and I are doing on the solar system. 🙂
Okay, now that I shared some books, here are two videos that go with everything else! Some of this may be offensive to you, especially those of you who are Christian who like books and videos that show any other view, but my idea is you can read things and then discuss with your kids the topics that are important to you. That being said, the next video some of you may go, “No, not that guy!” But, no matter what was said during the debate that was aired, I love his videos! If a Christian wants to come along and make some awesome videos that delve into Creation, then sure. I will probably look at those, too.
Bill Nye the Science Guy: The Sun
Great facts emphasized in creative ways about the sun. My kids know what they think or believe, even at a young age, so they take the good stuff and the fun and enjoy the facts. It is something you have to decide for yourself and your own family. I guess this one is a classroom edition, but I actually did not look at the extras. It was more for fun then just reteaching everything we already learned during school-time.
Don’t tell me you have never heard of Davy Crockett? Really?
Well, if you haven’t seen the movie, you must of heard the song “Davy, Davy Crockett. King of the Wild frontier!” NO?
If you haven’t, then you need to find out. This man was an interesting character with a lot of heart. This Disney version is a bit long but goes from when he helped fight against Indian attacks (with respect to the Indians) all the way to him helping fight in Alamo.
If you haven’t figured it out, we have been talking about Frontiersmen and animals in our homeschool! Next week I will probably be sharing more books on Christmas and other interesting things! Have a blessed day!
