And those of you who read in one post about how I may start carving pumpkins with the kids, I actually did! They are sitting at my Mom’s house because I was reprimanded for doing it, so I may just have to do birdhouses out of gourds next year. (Stinkin’ Halloween)
I did them in the beginning of October so they wouldn’t last to Halloween. My Mom reported they were already decaying after a week! My oldest decided he wanted to do a special pumpkin with a cross where beams would come off of it and stick Jesus’ name on the back, which was neat. I talked about what the meaning was in history of jack-o-lanterns and why we don’t like that, but how I really wanted to see their pumpkin as a heart and as they cleaned it out think of how Jesus cleans out our hearts and how His Spirit lives inside of us, shining light to others. And maybe that made him choose to do a cross? He did it on his own and it blessed my heart.
As we did our pumpkins the neighbor kids were knocking on our door and so we invited them to join us. They came over carrying their big pumpkins and did theirs at the same time as we did ours. Was there a mess to clean up but, oh, the shared memories and fun!
Again, I don’t have my kids finished products and my Mom has the pictures with their pumpkins on her camera. So if I can grab that picture I will, but please be inspired to do anything different and with kids makes it neat as well!
The other thing my kids did, which I think can be put in as sculpting, is made sugar cookies and cut out the dough with cookie cutters. 🙂 So, there is some sculpting that we did this month!
Now that the end of October is upon us, next month’s challenge will be based on Interior Decoration. Again, if you are just following me, I am reading through The Hidden Art of Homemaking by Edith Schaeffer.
In her book she talks about how we have a creative God and He made us to be creative as well. There are different ways to be creative and sometimes it is not so we can be big and famous, but so we can inspire others, or be inspired ourselves! God has given us different gifts as well as the ability to learn new things.
So next month we are going to talk about decorating our homes!
Again, this is not a strong point of mine. I have just learned a little here and there and can pull off a tiny bit of decorating, but so far, it is still not a strong point so I will be walking with you! I think we may pick one room a week, and if anything, I will start decorating with my kids for Thanksgiving. Then after Thanksgiving I will start Christmas decorating, and you can check out the things I have there.
Anyways, thanks for joining me and have a blessed day!
