“We all live somewhere.”-Edith Schaeffer
Yes we do! And it should be a place that inspires us and others who come to visit! Edith Schaeffer has a lot of tips and thoughts that I will share with you in upcoming posts but for now, where would you start if you could make a room a bit more special?
For me and my house, gourds and candles sit on my table (inspired by Women Living Well’s Making Your Home a Haven Challenge she had in October) and the other night I put place mats on the table just for the fun of it (though they will need to be washed now). My daughter was so excited about the place mats that she wanted the forks and knives to go on all “fancy-like.” Sometimes it just takes place mats to inspire someone else, right?
So I guess this week I will try to work on my Dining Room and Kitchen first. My kids and I have this wacky idea of building a paper tree on once side of our dining room and sticking leaves up all around the wall. The leaves would show what we are thankful for. We did it last year on the front door of the house (the inside part) and it really was a blessing. So why not again this year? Just in a different room and a bit behind schedule! But at least we can get it up before Thanksgiving!
I was also thinking I may want to invest in some type of Autumn tablecloth. I have tons of Christmas ones that were mostly given to me, but not any that go with Fall or Thanksgiving, so that would probably be a place to start.
We definitely have to take cobwebs down and dust off the ceiling fan and “Voila!” We will have the dining room done! (By the way, don’t quote me on when things get FULLY accomplished. Sometimes I make a plan and it actually takes a week or so to finally implement! It’s like I have to process it and then finally do it. Like with the apple pies post I put up today! It’s something I am still working on.) 🙂
As far as the kitchen, maybe I will find a candle for the kitchen too, but definitely just doing a deep clean in there is always helpful. Maybe I can put a vase of fake flowers somewhere. I bought some about a year or two ago and they have been perfect to just sit on things and to bring some color to the room.
Maybe we can hang some thankful leaves or turkeys or something off the ceiling? I’ll have to think about that room a bit more. Maybe even scour the internet to see if anyone has any kitchen decorating ideas.
What room would you start in if you had the chance?
“I would put under the heading of ‘Interior Decorating’ anything we do with the place we are living for any length of time at all. Here, whatever it is, is YOUR spot. This place should be expressing something of yourself. It should be communicating something of you to your visitors, but it should also satisfy something within you. You should feel ‘at home’ here, because you have made it home with something of yourself.” -Edith Schaeffer
